Pietro Giannone (1676 in Ischitella, in the kingdom of Sicily - 1748 in Turin) is an Italian historian and juriconsult. He is the author of a long work on the Kingdom of Naples. Having opposed the Pope's influence on the Kingdom, he was imprisoned for twelve years until his death. Compared to better works, his works are better received by the public because of his style and despite the liberties he takes. In England, historian Edward Gibbon regularly quotes him in the final chapters of the History of the Decline and Fall of the Roman Empire, leading other historians to view his works favourably. Rare complete set.
