[HÉNAULT (Charles)]. New, revised, corrected, and expanded edition. Paris, Prault, 1775, 3 parts in 3 vol. in-12 in continuous pagination, [8]-392 p.; [4] p., pp. 393-701, 1 blank, and [4] p., pp. 703-984, [99] p.., 1 white, full brown speckled calf of the period, plates framed with a triple gilt filet, smooth spine decorated, red and green moroccoed title piece (traces of wear, lower cover of the 3rd vol. levelled, brown spot on the first pages of the 1st vol.). Nice copy. The first edition dates from 1744. Hénault (1685-1770), was born into an extremely wealthy Parisian family. He was the friend of Fontenelle, Voltaire, Chaulieu, D'Argenson, Montesquieu, Helvétius. He was an adviser to the Paris Parliament in 1705, then President of the first chamber of commerce in 1710. In 1719 he opened with Madame de Tencin a trading post in Agio, which enabled him to considerably increase his personal fortune. Chronology is the science of dates and historical events or succession of events in time. Considered as an auxiliary discipline of history, chronology is a way of apprehending history through events.
