RODENBACH (Georges). Les Tombeaux. Paris, printed by Chamero - Lot 43
RODENBACH (Georges). Les Tombeaux. Paris, printed by Chamerot and Renouard for Bing, 1895, small 4°, unpaginated, full brown morocco, cold-framed fillets on boards, 4-nerved spine, author, title and head on small gilt witnesses, black moire covers, bordered slipcase (spine, spinebands and edges of slipcase rubbed) (binding signed Ch. Septier). Ex-libris of Gustave Nellens. First edition on watermarked laid paper. Commissioned by Samuel Bing to celebrate the opening of his L'Art Nouveau gallery on December 26, 1895, illustrated with 3 black woodcuts by James Pitcairn-Knowles. This Scottish painter, closely associated with the Nabis group, produced these drawings at Samuel Bing's request, even before an author or text had been found to illustrate them. Extremely rare booklet published as a complement to Les Vierges, illustrated by Joseph Rippl-Ronai.
