BELOFF.- VILDRAC (Charles). - Lot 58
BELOFF.- VILDRAC (Charles). Tales. Decorated with 8 woodcuts by Angeline Beloff. P., Éditions de la Belle Page, "Collection Première", 1926, in-12, full margins, br. with filled cover. First edition printed at 750 copies, numbered 1/29 Japon, accompanied by a suite of woodcuts on old Japon à la forme. Angeline Beloff (1879-1969), a Russian artist who emigrated to Paris in 1909, married Diego Rivera two years later. The marriage lasted until Rivera's final return to Mexico in 1921. Despite her promise to send him money to reunite them in Mexico, Angelina never received a single letter from him. After eleven years of hard work in Paris, she raised the money to look for Diego in Mexico, but he, married again, pretended not to recognize her. She then stayed in Mexico, working as an engraver and illustrator, as well as giving engraving lessons. She died there at the age of 90.
