MARIEN (Marcel). Handwritten text on the back of a card printed in red and black of the bookshop "Au Miroir d'Elisabeth", illustrated by Marcel Mariën. Essay on art: "Art is an object, in this case / one says object of art / Art is a means of producing / an affective effect in a deliberate way / in opposition to the / fortuitous way of feeling / this effect in favour of the contact / of any object. Thus the / sea, alone, is likely / to provoke this effect (...)". The bookshop "Au Miroir d'Elisabeth" is a bookshop opened in 1948 by Marcel Mariën, place de la Reine in Brussels and closed 2 years later.
