Group of Aluchromists - Archive of the group... - Lot 753 - Les ventes Damien Voglaire SRL
Group of Aluchromists - Archive of the group of Belgian Aluchromists (1961-1966). Important file including the history of the Aluchromists (manuscript of 6 sheets on the presentation of the group), numerous brochures and invitation cards, advertising leaflets, photographs, various documents on the Chet Baker concert organized by the Aluchromists in Barcelona, various letters as well as invoices. In 1961, the architect, painter and designer Raoul Van Loo and the painter Ralph Cleeremans discovered the possibilities of coloring the oxide layer of anodized aluminum, which they named Aluchromie. That same year, with the collaboration of painters Louis Tournay, Carlos Crivollaro, Pierre Leloup, Arié Mandelbaum and Guy Lambert, they create the "Groupe des Aluchromistes belges", and present their first collective work using this particular technique: "Aluchromie 3", a monumental sculpture-cube installed on the Place Rogier in Brussels. On the occasion of its inauguration, they organize a concert of the Modern Jazz Quartet whose stage is decorated with a fresco on aluminium of Ralph Cleeremans. Soon joined by many artists including Hugo Claus and Serge Vandercam and by Spanish artists who form the "Grupo de aluchromatistas espanoles". They exhibit in Belgium, France, Spain and Germany and participate in numerous international events. Like the "Grupo Espace" a few years earlier, the Aluchromatistas, who wished to overcome the split between architects and artists in order to achieve the unity of art, collaborated with architects for the exterior and interior decoration of several buildings. To this concept of unity of art, they integrate an additional dimension: music. Their work took on a new dimension through the creation of sets for jazz concerts. But in spite of their energy and creativity, the Aluchromists encountered many problems. The lack of orders and the difficulty to get paid for the ones already made ended the adventure in 1966. Detailed list on request.
