Bible de Mons - La Sainte Bible contenant l'Ancien et le Nouveau Testament, traduit en françois sur la Vulgate par Mr Le Maistre de Sacy. Mons, Gaspard Migeot, 1713, 2 vols. in-4° in continuous pagination, false title, title-frontispiece, title (vignette), VI-(2), 3 maps on double page, 810 p., 81 plates, and title-frontispiece, title, folding map, (2) p., pp. 811-1504, 87 plates (mounted on tabs) of which 3 are double; full contemporary brown calf, spine with decorated nerves (some wear, browning). A good copy. Louis-Isaac Lemaistre (or Lemaître), sieur de Sacy (1613-1684), a priest close to Port-Royal, is best known for his translation of the Bible, also known as the "Bible de Port-Royal" and also known as the "Bible de Mons", this translation is considered as the first French translation accessible to the general public who did not know Latin. This edition of 1713, gives one of the last states of this famous Bible printed under the name of Gaspard Migeot (1642-1757).
