RODOLPHE. Solfeggio or New method of music,... - Lot 290 - Les ventes Damien Voglaire SRL
RODOLPHE. Solfeggio or New method of music, divided into two parts, the first contains the theory of this art and the second the lessons with the bass and the gradations necessary to reach the difficulties. New edition. Paris, Ph. Petit, no date (ca 1820), 4°, title, 159 p., 1 folding plate in fine, green half-basin, maroon morocco title-piece on the upper board (boards rubbed, spine edges rubbed). (boards rubbed, spine worn, few russets). Jean-Joseph Rodolphe (1730-1812) was a French composer and music theorist of Alsatian origin. He had a brilliant career as a violinist, horn player and composer during the second half of the 18th century. In 1798, Rodolphe was appointed professor at the Paris Conservatoire. His music is a harmonious synthesis of the French tradition, inherited from Leclair, Rameau and Mondonville, and the Italian style taught to him by Jomelli: this is why Noverre was so fond of this composer, finding in it grace and choreographic variety, but also ardour and theatricality.
