The contemporary Parnassiculet. Collection... - Lot 89 - Les ventes Damien Voglaire SRL
The contemporary Parnassiculet. Collection of new verses preceded by the Hôtel du Dragon-Bleu and decorated with a very strange etching [by Delor, a pupil of Gérôme]. Second edition, increased by NINE unpublished pieces, no less surprising than the first, attributed to the same authors and discovered after their death. [By Paul Arène, Alfred Delvau, Jean du Boys, Alphonse Daudet, Léon Renard]. Paris, Librairie centrale, J. Lemer éditeur, 1872, small 8°, 52 p., half wine-lees leather with corners, spine with 5 nerves, title and head gilt, covers on parchment paper preserved, ex-libris (faint spotting). Limited edition of 520 copies. 1/500 Hollande, this one not numbered. The various trends of modern poetry grouped in 1866 around the publisher Lemerre published a collection of "new verse": "Le Parnasse contemporain". It includes, among others, Gautier, Banville, Leconte de Lisle, Louis Ménard, Heredia, Baudelaire, Coppée, Verlaine and Mallarmé. Such a manifesto-like ensemble soon provoked reactions. There were the seven medallions of Barbey d'Aurevilly's "Contemporary Parnassus", then the "Contemporary Parnassiculet", published anonymously, a delightful collection of parodies of the Parnassian poets, enriched by a preface that caricaturally describes a smoky cenacle. This little collection made a great noise and prefigured "Les Déliquescences d'Adoré Floupette" / DOUCET (Jérôme). Dances. Compositions by Louis Fuchs. P., Société d'Editions littéraires et artistiques, 1901, in-12, softback ed. (stained binding) / Set. 2 vols.
