Beautiful copy in a lined binding by Pierre-Lucien Martin - VILLON - VALERY (Paul). The Bucolics of Virgil. Original lithographs in colours by Jacques Villon. P., Scripta et Picta, 1953, in-folio, black half-maroquin with frame, mosaic boards of a geometrical decoration of box with multiple colours, spine titled in long in a mosaic geometrical decoration, lining of full lilac box, guards of pink box, gilt edges, cover and back cons, half morocco folder with bands and flaps, lined and dotted case (edge of case slightly rubbed) (binding signed P.L. Martin, dated 1959). First edition illustrated with 43 original lithographs in colours. Limited edition of 269 copies + some nominative copies reserved for the main contributors. Our copy is the one printed for Doctor A. Roudinesco. "Les Bucoliques de Virgile" was written by Paul Valéry during the years 1942-1944 for Scripta et Picta. This book was prepared by Doctor A. Roudinesco. The illustrations were drawn on stone in colours by Jacques Villon who engraved each colour with his own hand on a different stone and the printing was done by Célestin on the presses of Mourlot Frères. A sublime copy in a binding admirably executed by Pierre-Lucien Martin.
