CHARPENTIER, Gustave (1860-1956), French... - Lot 92 - Les ventes Damien Voglaire SRL
CHARPENTIER, Gustave (1860-1956), French musician. Autograph letter signed, 3 pages in-8 on the letterhead of the Palais d'Orsay hotel, addressed to a "dear friend", the day after or a few days after the premiere of Julien ou la vie du poète which took place on June 4, 1913. Charpentier makes a series of remarks on the interpretation of his work. Here is the first one: "Would you allow me to point out a few thoughts that I forgot to mention yesterday: 1° the last laugh of the Girl, turned into a sob, makes the ending incomprehensible. The Girl has no reason to be sorry. The whole effect of this ending is destroyed if the laughter does not sound like the final mockery of Humanity. Etc. Precious document.
