MARCEAU (N.). Five years of Hitler's dictatorship. Engraving - Lot 807
MARCEAU (N.). Five years of Hitler's dictatorship. Engravings: H. Kivitz. Off-text: Romain Rolland. P., Editions du Comité Thaelmann, 1938, 4°, 40 p. (not paginated), br. (stained cover, damaged back). Original ed. containing 1 text by Romain Rolland, entitled "Save the German hostages from the axe of peace! The exhibition "Five Years of Hitler's Dictatorship" organized by the Thaelmann Committee, named after the leader of the German Communist Party arrested by the Nazis and interned in a concentration camp, is banned by the French authorities in order to avoid any disturbance of public order. At this time, France is still trying to negotiate peacekeeping with Nazi Germany. The engraving by the anti-Nazi artist Kivitz presents a vision of the concentration camps very close to the bagnes where prisoners are forced to work under the supervision of guards shouting out their orders. This vision is corrected by the many testimonies of escaped or released prisoners who describe a concentration camp system designed to dehumanize and gradually annihilate individuals. Contact: EPARVIER, Jean. In Paris under the boot of the Nazis. P., Édit. Raymond Schall, 1944, 4°, cart. ed. Preface and facsimile of a letter from General de Gaulle. Famous album of photographs taken in Paris during the Second World War. Contains 128 pages of commented period photographs. The artistic study and realization of this work are due to Jean-Louis Babelay, the photographs of Schall, Joublin, Parry, Vials, Papillon.../ Ens. 2 vol.
