ELUARD (Paul).
Poetry and Truth 1942. Paris, Les Éditions de la Main à Plume, 1942, 13 x 11cm, 14 unencrypted leaves, stapled. Original edition. Collection of poems published in clandestinity, including the famous poem "Liberty". Paul Éluard himself explained the history of this collection as follows: "In May 1942, Noël Arnaud took on the responsibility of publishing La Dernière Nuit and a few other poems under the title Poésie et vérité 1942 (Poetry and Truth 1942), published by La Main à Plume, whose meaning can hardly leave any doubt as to the aim pursued: to regain, in order to harm the occupier, freedom of expression". Nice copy (beginning of the split back followed by a glued-on snag).
