STAROVOLCI (Simon). Sarmatiae bellatores.... - Lot 50 - Les ventes Damien Voglaire SRL
STAROVOLCI (Simon). Sarmatiae bellatores. Cologne, Apud Henricum Crithium, 1631, small 4°, [10]-243 (1-161, 159-243)-1 p. white, full vellum at that time. First edition. Szymon Starowolski (1588-1656) is a Polish historian, poet and priest. A Polish cultural movement, called Sarmatism, based on the ancient protochronistic belief that the Szlachta (Polish aristocracy) was descended in a straight line from the Sarmatians, spread from the end of the 16th to the second half of the 17th century in the Republic of Two Nations. This idea then exerted a considerable influence on the morals and ideology of the Polish nobility, and also influenced Baroque literature under the Rzeczpospolita. Beautiful state.
