FÉNELON. Philosophical works or Demonstration... - Lot 19 - Les ventes Damien Voglaire SRL
FÉNELON. Philosophical works or Demonstration of the existence of God, taken from the art of nature, in the first part: and in the second, purely intellectual proofs, and the idea of infinity itself. New edition [...]. Amsterdam, L'Honoré et Chastelain 1721, in-12, portrait, [14]-317-1 p. blanche. At the end, we can read the Reflections of Father Tournemine Jésuite, on atheism, on the Demonstration of Monsignor de Cambrai, and on Spinoza's system (pp. 291-317). Linked with : [Ramsay (Andrew Michael)]. History of the life of Messr. François de Salignac de la Motte-Fénelon, archbishop duke of Cambrai. The Hague, Brothers Vaillant, 1723. François de Salignac de La Mothe-Fénelon dit Fénelon (1651-1715) was a French man of the Church, theologian, pedagogue and writer. Interesting combination of works and biography. Andrew Michael Ramsay (1693-1743) is a Scottish writer, philosopher and freemason, mainly based in France. His speech in 1736 is considered one of the founding texts of Freemasonry in general and of the French Masonic tradition in particular. He converted following his meeting with Fénelon. Two vol. bound together in full vellum at the time, cold-stamped rhombus in the centre of the plates.
