BELLOC (Auguste).
"Nude at the railing" (ca 1855). Printed on salted paper, enhanced with watercolours, numbered "239" in the lower left corner. Subject size: 21 x 15.5 cm (bevelled corners). Auguste Belloc (1800-1867) worked as a miniaturist and watercolourist before discovering photography. His preference is for the wet colodion process, about which he will publish a treatise in 1853. The following year, he became a founding member of the Société Française de Photographie. A pioneer of the female nude in this new medium, his prints were a source of inspiration for Courbet's painting.
