ANGUS (William). The Seats of the Nobility and Gentry in Great Britain and Wales. In A Collection Of Views, Engraved By W. Angus. From Pictures And Drawings By The Most Eminent Artists. With Descriptions Of Each View. Published by W. Angus. Gwynne's Buildings, Islington. Dated 1787, but actually 1815. Oblong 4to. A nice wide margined copy with all edges untrimmed. Illustrated with engraved title and 63 engraved views, each with a descriptive leaf of letterpress opposite. Originally issued in 1787 with just 48 views, this re-issued enlarged edition is complete with 63 plates. Good strong impressions of the engravings. An attractive series of views of Britain and Wales from the late 18th cent. These finely detailed engravings we drawn by prominent artists of the day, including Paul Sandby, Angus himself, John Claude Nattes, Edward Dayes, Lord Duncannon, and more. The delightfully nostalgic views show many stately homes of yesteryear in their glory days. William Angus (1752-1821) was a British engraver of architectural and topographical views. Our collection includes 48 numbered views (13 x 18.5 cm), arranged in no particular order, with no general title or explanatory notes, and several plates are dated 1787, 1790, 1792, 1797, etc. Modern binding in full burgundy grips, smooth spine. No freckles. Beautiful and rare set.
