The abbot Nollet, whose work on electricity has been especially noted, spread in France the fashion of physics and chemistry experiments by his public demonstrations, the construction of instruments and the publication of popular works, such as this one, which was a considerable success. An eminent member of the Academy of Sciences, which he joined in 1739, he held the first chair of experimental physics at the University of Paris. Published for the first time from 1743 to 1748, these Lessons were constantly republished. Often incomplete.
