Berggruen Catalogs—A collection of 25 catalogs from the famo - Lot 648
Berggruen Catalogs—A collection of 25 catalogs from the famous Parisian gallery. Various dates: 1968–1996. Several original covers printed as lithographs: Alechinsky, Arroyo, Beringer, Maurice Estève, Joan Miró, Robert Motherwell, Peter Paul, and Wunderlich. Catalogs featuring: Arroyo, Lucian Freud, Klee, Klimt, Kubin, Marcoussis, Matisse, Munch, etc. Heinz Berggruen (1914–2007) was a German journalist, collector, gallery owner, and art dealer. In 1947, he moved to Paris, where he opened a gallery on Place Dauphine. André Breton, Paul Éluard, and Tristan Tzara soon served as intermediaries with the artists. Berggruen gained international renown in the field of printmaking, particularly after organizing the first exhibition of Klee’s etchings in 1950 and that of Matisse’s “cut-outs” in 1953. He was also a close friend of Picasso. A beautiful set in mint condition.
