ALECHINSKY (Pierre). A pair of postcards: the first written - Lot 602
ALECHINSKY (Pierre). A pair of postcards: the first written by Alechinsky on the back of a postcard depicting the Seine flood, the second written from New York by his wife Micky; both addressed to Florent (and Suzanne) Welles. The first was written in the late 1950s: “In the land of Bilingue, Hell / is worth the trip.” Received from Nevers / a postcard from the team / D’Haese-Kaufman in action, / —yes, I won’t forget a catalog / of “Vitalité dans l’art” when I go / to Recklinghausen in October. / If you ever treat yourself to it, / come spend a weekend in Paris in / the trunk of my father’s car. / Affectionately, / P[ierre].” Florent Welles (1922–2000) was a Brussels-based sculptor associated with the Marais group (Cobra), who befriended Alechinsky, Corneille, Appel, Hugo Claus, and a few others.
